It can be overwhelming trying to decide what spots to capture.

With incredible architecture, green spaces, food hot spots, and more, you’ll surely capture Vienna’s true essence with your photography.

But if you’re looking for the absolute best photo locations for snapping some fantastic pics, here are my top 15 picks for the best Vienna Instagram spots.

1. Stephen's Cathedral

The stunning St. Stephen’s Cathedral is one of Vienna’s most iconic landmarks and one of the most Instagrammable spots in the city.

The church has been standing for over 700 years!

The cathedral is best photographed from the outside early in the morning when the light is hitting the rooftop tile perfectly.

Climb one of the towers for some of the best views in the city.

No matter how you capture this historic landmark, your photos will easily be amongst the best of Vienna!

2. Palace of Justice

Another must-have for your IG feed in Vienna is the Palace of Justice.

Located in the center of Vienna, this neo-Renaissance building was originally used as a courthouse.

Its stunning exterior makes it an ideal spot for taking fantastic shots with its grand columns, intricate sculptures, and golden statues.

But for real magic, head inside to snag a photo on the grand staircase. The ceiling looks like a greenhouse with huge windows bringing in natural light, making it one of the best Vienna Instagram spots!

There are guards inside, so be respectful when taking your photos. They are used to content creators coming in, but this is still a place of work for many locals.

3. Vienna State Opera House

The Vienna Opera House needs no introduction as one of the most beautiful opera houses in the world. And it’s no surprise that it is an excellent spot for taking some incredible pictures.

The building was built in the late 1800s, and its iconic exterior makes it an ideal spot to take a fantastic shot.

To get the best position to shoot pictures of the Vienna State Opera, you’ll need to head across the street to the Albertina Museum. This will let you get some great shots without the crowds of people.

And if you’re lucky enough to attend a show, take some pictures while inside as well. It is truly an experience like no other!

4. State Hall of the Austrian National Library

The State Hall of the Austrian National Library is one of the most unique spots in Vienna.

As one of the less popular tourist attractions, only a few people discover the library’s huge bookshelves and stunning ceiling murals!

It has become a must for some of the best travel content creators.
I recommend getting there right when it opens to have the highest chance of getting your shot without people walking in the background.

Its stunning artwork and tall ceilings make it an excellent spot for taking big-picture shots, so remember to bring your wide lens!

5. Michaelerplatz

Vienna has a range of beautiful public squares, but Michaelerplatz is one of my favorites for photos.

Centrally located within the Innere Stadt, Michaelerplatz forms the main entrance to The Hofburg, the former imperial palace of the Habsburgs. Within the square, you will also find the historic Michaelskirche, which dates back to the 13th century, and the excavated site of the Roman settlement, Vindobona.

The square offers up some of the best photography spots in Vienna, all within a few meters of one another. If you are visiting during the festive season, you can also visit one of the best Christmas markets in Europe.

6. Burggarten

Burggarten is a sweeping formal garden that backs onto The Hofburg.

As you wander around, you’ll find statues like the one of Mozart and Franz Josef and eventually reach the Art Nouveau conservatory, Schmetterlinghaus.

Schmetterlinghaus

If you need some nature content for your grid, you must check out Schmetterlinghaus.

This beautiful butterfly house is located next to the Burggarten, and it houses an extensive collection of different species of butterflies and moths.

It makes for some incredible photos with its bright colors, flowers and foliage, and natural light that streams in from the glass ceiling.

7. Brasserie Palmenhaus

Not only is this brasserie a great spot to try some Viennese coffee and desserts, but it’s also a whole vibe.

The tall, curved glass ceilings, palm trees, and natural light make it ideal for snapping beautiful photos.

8. Schönbrunn Palace

You can’t go to Vienna and not get a shot in front of the Schönbrunn Palace & Gardens.

This iconic landmark is a must-see for anyone visiting Vienna, and its grand facade makes it the perfect spot to take some fantastic shots for your feed. Plus, there are plenty of gardens nearby that you can use as backdrops for your photos too.

Explore and find some of the great tree tunnels and rose gardens scattered around the palace grounds. They will make your photos look like something out of a fairytale!

If you choose to tour the palace inside, you will see some beautiful art and architecture, but you won’t be able to take photos, unfortunately.

Palmenhaus Schönbrunn

The Palmenhaus Schönbrunn is another one of the best Vienna Instagram spots.

You will be in Vienna one second and the next, on a tropical island with Mediterranean gardens, palm trees, and other exotic plants.

My favorite shot is on the white spiraling staircase surrounded by beautiful glass windows and green plants.

9. Karlskirche

This baroque Roman Catholic church is one of Vienna’s most beautiful grand churches, making for some stunning photos.

The two towering columns with striking green domes are a European staple and instantly recognizable as soon as you see them.

To get the best photo, try to get there early in the morning or late at night when the sun is low, and few people are around. This way, you can capture unique angles and silhouettes in your shots!

Try shooting from the bottom, looking at the facade for something more dramatic. Your photo will stand out from the crowd, and you can show off all of the intricate details of this beautiful building.

10. Belvedere Palace

This UNESCO world heritage site is perfect for some Instagram photography. The garden area is beaming with fountains and classical sculptures, perfect for a romantic photo to bring some softness to your feed.

The palace was once the main summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy, and today it is home to several museums. While the gardens are gorgeous, you want to remember to take some shots inside the palace as well; the stunning baroque architecture is incredible.

11. Rathausplatz

For a more urban feel in your photos, Rathausplatz is the perfect spot. The famous square has some interesting architecture and monuments that are great backdrops for any photo shoot.

This spot is the most magical when it has Rathausplatz’s epic Christmas market, like when I visited!

My favorite shots here are taken just outside of the town hall itself. The building’s massive size and baroque and neo-gothic style create an impressive backdrop for your photos.

Rathausplatz brings something a little different than the typical tourist shots.

Another public square Insta worthy is the beautiful Maria-Theresien-Platz.

This piazza is adjacent to The Hofburg and is the setting of prominent museums such as Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien and the Museum of Natural History Vienna. At the heart of the square, you will spot a colossal statue of Empress Maria Theresa, with four fountains marking each corner.

13. Café Central Wein

What’s a trip to Vienna without some Viennese coffee and a treat?

A photoshoot in this iconic cafe is a must.

Regardless of where you sit in Cafe Central, you will get some instaworthy backdrops with their high mirrored walls and sparking chandeliers.

You can also get incredible shots of the cakes and pastries for a carousel post.

14. Ferstel Passage

Running beneath Palais Ferstel, the Ferstel Passage is one of the best Instagram spots in Vienna if you want to tap on a spot of shopping alongside your shoot!

This covered 19th-century arcade was modeled on the shopping passages in Paris and is buzzing with high-end shops, fresh produce, and chic eateries.

You can capture the arches, fountains, and moldings or sit in one of the cafes for some lifestyle shots. It’s an excellent destination for a glass of wine in the evening after a photoshoot day.

15. Hundertwasserhaus

Hundertwasserhaus is one of the most eclectic Vienna Instagram spots and offers a change of scenery from imperial architecture.

The Hundertwasser House, is the creation of the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser and architect Joseph Krawina.

This higgledy-piggledy apartment features colorful tiles, wrought-iron balconies, geometric shapes, and vegetation creeping up over the walls before culminating in an urban roof forest. It’s a huge building, so make sure to have your wide-angle lens with you!

The Vienna Bow

If you’re visiting Vienna, Austria during the holidays, don’t miss the famous Vienna Bow 🙂

The Popp & Kretschmer historic luxury fashion store is done up in a massive, glittery, red bow for the holidays. It’s my favorite Christmas decoration in Vienna, and I wish I had one for my house. 🙂

You can find this massive red bow at Kärntner Straße 51.

This is a custom Google Map with all listed locations linked so you can find them easier.
