Solo Female Travel Guide

Solo Travel

Are you ready to travel the globe? Do it on your own terms! Few experiences are as liberating and thrilling as traveling alone. Solo travel has transformed my life and is the greatest gift I’ve ever given myself. Rather than making excuses for not traveling by waiting for someone to join you, take the plunge and go solo.

Many women, like me, will find solo travel powerful, pleasurable, and unforgettable. It’s easy to underestimate the value of being able to do what you want when you want. When traveling solo, you can fill your day with activities or treat yourself to a day of getting lost in a beautiful city.

I feel that solo travel is one of the best ways for women to learn about themselves and the world. Taking a solo journey is an excellent approach to expanding your horizons. And there are so many options when it comes to the finest solo vacation places!

Solo female travel may be difficult – I’ve learned a lot over the years (and I’m still learning!). This guide will help you so you can better plan your next trip.

Research & Book in Advance

Research before you go: weather, local customs, dress codes, etiquette, etc. Make sure you know what to expect when you step off the plane. You’ll make better choices and get the most out of your trip.

Is it your first time traveling solo? Use common sense and start with the basics. Book your accommodation ahead of time. You can also book transportation from the airport to the hotel for a smooth start to your journey. And always have a backup plan.

Make sure you can access the hotel address without WiFi. Carry your passport and some cash in a well-concealed spot. And don’t forget travel insurance.

Travel tip: Use AirAlo digital SIM card to stay connected and avoid high roaming bills. Available in 190+ countries and regions around the world. Your primary phone number remains connected, so you can receive phone calls, text messages, etc. The AirAlo provides the data plan so you can find your hotel, favorite cafe bar, restaurant, or call your loved ones.

Assure Your Loved Ones

One of the most challenging things before your solo trip is explaining your idea of traveling solo to your loved ones. Some people understand it better than others.

Your loved ones care about you, and their worry is understandable, especially for your first time traveling alone. This concern extends to parents, spouses, siblings, and friends 🙂

Traveling solo is a unique and exciting adventure and can be empowering and life-changing. However, your loved ones will most likely try and talk you out of it. Plan the conversation ahead of time, and pitch them the idea first. Slowly build the story before telling them that you’ve bought a plane ticket.

Face Your Fears

The world is a magical and fascinating place. Don’t be intimidated by it! Travel is about breaking out of your comfort zone and growing beyond your own self-set boundaries.

Don’t let your fears of safety, thoughts of being lonely, or concerns of getting stranded stop you from discovering yourself and the world. Go even if you aren’t sure – travel can expand your perspective and empower your sense of self.

Avoid Overpacking

Pack wisely; after all, you are traveling solo! Having a ton of luggage can put a damper on your travels. Avoid overpacking:

  • Make a checklist. List all the essentials, especially in your carry-on. This guide can help you!
  • Pack pieces that you can mix and match. Plan each outfit. Use packing cubes to organize everything
  • Pack good shoes – they are essential with all the walking you’ll be doing. Personally, I love the new trend that sneakers go with everything!

Pick the Right Destinations

Make a bucket list and follow your wanderlust! Just make sure it’s a safe destination or know what to expect before going. Pick a city or country with low crime and is considered “safe” for female travel.

You’ll be able to relax and enjoy your trip better if you don’t have to worry about violence or muggings. Start by knowing yourself. If you can’t handle unwanted attention from men, book tickets to more female-friendly places.

Survive the Flight

Staying smart on the plane is the key to arriving happily at your destination. Pack a few refreshing items – a hairbrush, toothbrush, travel-sized deodorant, and breath mints. Entertainment on the flight also matters, so bring your favorites. Traveling with Kindle Oasis is perfect for long flights or airport layovers.

It’s the little things that pick up your mood. Stay hydrated and avoid coffee and alcohol on the plane. Wear loose-fitted clothing for extra comfort.

Stay Healthy

Even though traveling brings so much joy and happiness, it creates obstacles to your fitness routine. Traveling with extra workout clothes and equipment isn’t always an option, and who has time for the gym when a foreign cobblestone street is calling your name?

But keeping fit on the go doesn’t have to be a chore. Try eating healthy, and instead of using public transport at your destination, explore on foot. You will genuinely get to know the place and get your steps in.

Travelling Solo

Solo travel can be enriching. Be confident and informed – you’ll find the destination blooms right before you. Be safe – use your basic street smarts, be assertive, and keep your valuables close and hidden.

Most importantly, have fun and enjoy! Open up, be warm and friendly, and get to know the locals. A smile can go a long way in helping you meet fascinating people and like-minded travelers.
