Get to Prague
PLANE — Prague is served by Václav Havel Airport (PRG), located about 30 minutes from the city center. The airport is modern, efficient, and well-connected to major European and international hubs, with direct flights from cities like London, Paris, Rome, Frankfurt, and New York. For a seamless arrival, arrange a private airport transfer through your hotel or use Uber, which is officially partnered with the airport.
TRAIN — If you’re traveling within Europe, arriving by train is an easy and scenic option. Praha hlavní nádraží (Prague Main Station) is centrally located and connects directly to cities such as Vienna (4 hours), Berlin (4.5 hours), and Budapest (6.5 hours). The station is walkable to Wenceslas Square and offers luggage storage, cafés, and car services for onward travel.
When to visit Prague
March to May — Spring in Prague is fresh and romantic. The city’s gardens and parks begin to bloom, crowds are lighter than summer, and café terraces start to fill with locals. It’s an ideal season for slow exploration and beautiful photography with soft, even light.
June to August — Summer is peak season in Prague, bringing warm weather, longer days, and bustling streets. The atmosphere is lively with outdoor festivals and open-air concerts, but expect higher hotel rates and crowded main attractions. Early mornings are best for sightseeing.
September to October — Autumn is one of the most beautiful and balanced times to visit Prague. The weather is mildly cool, with golden foliage around the river and castle, and the crowds begin to thin. I visited in October, and while there were a few light showers, the city’s moody skies and crisp air made it even more atmospheric.
November to February — Winter transforms Prague into a fairytale setting, especially during the Christmas markets in Old Town Square. Temperatures drop, but so do hotel prices, making it a lovely time for a quiet, cozy getaway. Bring warm layers and enjoy the charm of fewer tourists.
How many days in Prague
Three to five days is the ideal amount of time to experience Prague. Three days allows you to see the city’s main highlights — from Charles Bridge and Old Town Square to Prague Castle and Letná Park — without feeling rushed.
I stayed for four days, which felt perfect for balancing sightseeing with slow mornings and long dinners. You’ll have time to explore each neighborhood in depth, visit the Klementinum Library, and enjoy moments of calm between the city’s landmarks.
If you have a fifth day, consider taking a day trip to one of the nearby castles — Karlštejn Castle is the most popular choice, just 40 minutes away by train or private car. The countryside views and medieval atmosphere make it a beautiful extension of your Prague itinerary.
How to get around in Prague
