Tips for visiting the Prosecco vending machine in Italy
Italy is the ultimate foodie paradise. With a culinary tradition that dates back literally thousands of years and enriched by gastronomic influences and innovations from throughout the world, it is a veritable cornucopia of incredible cuisine. Combine that with an equally old and innovative winemaking tradition, and you are left with a dizzying combination of food and wine pairings.
Is there anything more magical than sipping a glass of Prosecco while taking in the idyllic views of Italy? All that and more you can find in the Prosecco region in Northern Italy. And speaking of wine, there is a vending machine that dispenses Prosecco!
Here are our tips for visiting the Prosecco Vending Machine in Italy!
Getting to the Prosecco region
The Prosecco region, also known as Le Colline del Prosecco di Conegliano e Valdobbiadene, is a European fairy tale. With wineries and old farmhouses nestled in the vine-covered terraces, this area is a foodie and vino paradise.
To get to the Prosecco region, you’ll want to fly into Venice or Treviso. Both cities have international airports and are well-connected by train. Whether you’re coming from Venice or Treviso, your train stop is Conegliano. When you arrive and want to explore the area, you can hire a local taxi driver who can give you a tour of the Prosecco Road (La Strada Del Prosecco).
Fun fact: The Prosecco region is one of the latest and greatest additions to the list of UNESCO world heritage sites. It is also the only region in the world where Prosecco can be produced.
Tips for a day trip
The Prosecco area is less of a tourist trap than many areas, especially considering how famous their sparkling wine is. When you go to Le Colline del Prosecco di Conegliano e Valdobbiadene, you will want to plan in advance.
Read up on the best places to visit and research which wineries or tasting places you’d like to go to. Heads up, there isn’t much English spoken in the region and there’s not much chit chat when sampling the sparkling wines. It’s more about soaking in the scenery…and enjoying the slight buzz.
You will need a reservation for pretty much everywhere so book in advance!
Molinetto della Croda
Make a quick stop to see this ancient mill in the Lierza valley. The Molinetto is a typical example of 17th century rural architecture. The old mill is a symbol of old rural life which is today disappearing.
Wine tasting
I picked the Col Vetoraz winery to sample some bubbly. The winery is located on top of the hill of the same name in Santo Stefano di Valdobbiadene and right next to the Prosecco vending machine area.
Col Vetoraz was founded in 1993. Today, with more than 250 awards achieved and the recognition of the winemaking world, Col Vetoraz has become a reference point in the distinctive identity and reputation for excellence of this magnificent land.
I loved their bubbly and even took a couple of bottles home!
How to visit the Prosecco vending machine
Once you’ve sampled a few varieties, it’s vending machine time! Start your journey at Osteria Senz’Oste (senz’oste means “without a host” in Italian)—this is the “honesty” kitchen. Here, you can pick up all of your picnic supplies in the open farmhouse.
You’ll find areas to sit inside of the Osteria along with some picnic tables outside that offer a view of the hills. While it’s a nice place for a break, keep going!
The Prosecco vending machine is located on Colline del Cartizze, the hill known for producing the most premium Prosecco in the entire DOCG region, Superiore di Cartizze, which is located between the towns of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. Of course, it’s situated on La Strada del Prosecco – or the Prosecco Road.
This is a quirky little attraction! The prosecco is very reasonably priced with options under 20 euros and some even under 10! And you can get glasses for 1 euro. You need an Italian ID card for the vending machine (the taxi driver will be more than happy to provede his!).
It's a beautiful experience
Once all set, there is a picnic area to enjoy this idyllic experience with the most picturesque view ever.
While the Prosecco vending machine has become a small-time tourist attraction, it’s the Italians who really love it. You’ll find locals who use this as their local picnic space. It has a laid-back vibe that is just what I needed on my Italian escape.
