Few European cities capture the magic of winter quite like Tallinn. Blanketed in snow and glowing under warm golden lights, Estonia’s capital feels like a living Christmas card — charming, walkable, and quietly luxurious. WHERE TO STAY

Base yourself at the Radisson Collection Hotel, Tallinn, one of the city’s top luxury properties. Its sleek design, impeccable service, and panoramic rooftop restaurant make it a perfect winter retreat — close enough to the Old Town yet tucked away from the crowds.

Day 1 – Old Town Magic & the Christmas Market

Morning
Start your first morning in Tallinn with breakfast at your hotel before heading straight to Town Hall Square, where the Tallinn Christmas Market sparkles beneath the 15th-century Town Hall. Walk through the Viru Gate, past colorful flower stalls, and down to St. Catherine’s Passage, one of the Old Town’s prettiest medieval lanes. Spend some time exploring the market stalls, tasting local treats, and soaking up the festive atmosphere.

Lunch
Have lunch right at the Christmas Market — it’s the perfect place to sample traditional Estonian comfort foods like black pudding, sauerkraut, or mulled wine served in steaming cups.

Warm up afterward at Café Maiasmokk, Tallinn’s oldest café, famous for its old-world charm and marzipan confections. It’s the ideal spot for an afternoon coffee before continuing your walk.

Afternoon
Stroll along Pikk Street, lined with colorful merchant houses, before heading up to Toompea Hill. Visit the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, then stop at the Kohtuotsa and Patkuli Viewing Platforms for panoramic, postcard-worthy views over the Old Town’s rooftops. Continue to the Danish King’s Garden and end your sightseeing at St. Nicholas Church, where a glass elevator takes you to one of the best vantage points in the city.

Dinner
Enjoy a candlelit medieval dinner at Olde Hansa, one of Tallinn’s most atmospheric restaurants. The warm glow, traditional recipes, and historic décor make it the perfect finale to your first festive day.

After dinner, take a slow walk back through the Christmas Market — the lights shimmer even more beautifully at night.

Day 2 – Design, culture & modern Nordic dining

Morning
After breakfast, take a short Uber ride to Kadriorg Palace and Park, a stunning Baroque estate built by Peter the Great. Wander through the manicured gardens and the art museum inside, which feels especially serene under a layer of snow.

Lunch
Head back toward the Old Town for lunch at Restaurant Pegasus, a long-loved local favorite offering creative Estonian dishes in a modern, airy space with large windows overlooking the historic streets.

Afternoon
Spend your afternoon discovering Tallinn’s modern side. Start in Rotermann City, an urban district where old industrial buildings meet sleek contemporary design — perfect for a bit of Christmas shopping or architecture photography. Stop for coffee and a pastry at RØST Bakery, one of Tallinn’s trendiest cafés known for its cinnamon buns and minimalist Nordic atmosphere.

From there, continue to Telliskivi Creative City, a lively neighborhood filled with art galleries, boutiques, and street murals — the best place to experience Tallinn’s creative energy.

Dinner
For dinner, head to NOA Restaurant, a fine dining destination by the sea. The elegant Nordic menu and panoramic water views make it one of the most memorable dining experiences in Tallinn.

Day 3 – Winter wellness & skyline views

Morning
Start your final morning with a quintessential Nordic ritual — a Finnish sauna experience. Book a private sauna cabin at Iglupark in Noblessner, where you can enjoy serene seaside views through glass walls and (if you’re brave) take a refreshing plunge in the Baltic.

Lunch
Return to the Old Town for lunch at Restaurant Rataskaevu 16, a local favorite known for its cozy ambiance and seasonal Estonian dishes. The service is warm, the food beautifully presented, and it’s always worth reserving ahead.

Afternoon
Spend your afternoon exploring the Kiek in de Kök Museum, one of Tallinn’s most fascinating historical attractions. Walk through medieval defense towers and underground tunnels that tell centuries of stories from the city’s past.

Dinner
End your trip with dinner at ISSEI Tallinn, the rooftop restaurant at the Radisson Collection Hotel. The Japanese-Peruvian fusion menu, paired with sweeping views of the illuminated city, makes for an elegant and memorable final evening.

Day 4 – Day trip to Helsinki

Take the early morning ferry (around 7:00 AM) to Helsinki, Finland — a scenic two-hour journey across the Gulf of Finland. Spend the day exploring the Helsinki Christmas Market in Senate Square, browsing nearby department stores, and visiting the Oodi Central Library, one of the city’s most striking architectural landmarks.

Stop for lunch at a cozy Nordic bistro before catching the evening ferry (around 7:00–8:00 PM) back to Tallinn.

Tips for Visiting Tallinn at Christmas

Book early — hotels and restaurants fill quickly during December.

Pack layers — temperatures hover around freezing, and snow is common.

Carry a card — even Christmas market stalls accept contactless payment.

Take your time — Tallinn is best enjoyed slowly, with plenty of coffee breaks and warm indoor stops.

If you’re planning a longer winter escape, pair Tallinn with Riga, Helsinki, or Copenhagen for the ultimate Baltic and Nordic itinerary.
